You spread three years of tax returns, built the global cash flow, and wrote a credit memo that went to committee while you sat at your kitchen table in 2021. So you search "remote credit analyst jobs" and LinkedIn promises more than 6,000 openings. Read the first 60 cards and 22 of them carry a credit analyst title. The rest are mortgage underwriters, SBA underwriters, credit officers and a collections specialist.
The usual line is that credit analysis is laptop work, so remote seats should be easy to find. The work part is true. Most of the rest isn't. The real postings rarely say where you'll sit, and the ones that say remote often mean remote inside one state. What decides it is usually not the analysis. It's who has to read it: a relationship manager, a sales team waiting on an order release, a decision engine, or a committee in a room.

We analyzed 800 US credit analyst job postings across 587 employers, first listed between January and October 2026. Twenty-five of them say fully remote. This guide shows where those 25 are, what each kind of credit desk pays, and how to read a posting for the remote odds before you apply.
Yes, credit analysts work remotely, but not often. 25 of 800 postings (3.1%) say fully remote, and that's 25 of the 251 that state a work model at all. The remote seats cluster at banks hiring remotely inside their own states, corporate trade-credit desks, bank and fintech strategy and model teams, and loan review. The best-paid desk, rating agencies and private credit with a $122,500 median, is remote in 2 of 58 postings that say.
Here are the numbers behind that answer, each with its denominator.
Based on 800 US credit analyst postings at 587 employers (January to October 2026):
- 25 of 800 (3.1%) are fully remote; that's 25 of the 251 postings that state a work model (10.0%). 153 are hybrid, 60 on site, and 549 never say
- 15 of 125 bank, credit union and finance-company lending postings that state a model are fully remote; median posted pay midpoint $83K (n=195), and 49 of those 195 ranges are hourly
- 2 of 58 rating-agency, private-credit and asset-manager postings that state a model are fully remote, at a $122.5K median (n=95)
- 5 of 22 consumer and fintech credit strategy and model postings are remote or remote-optional, at a $126K median (n=27); 48 of 59 ask for SQL
- 6 of 40 corporate trade-credit postings that state a model are fully remote, at a $73K median (n=42)
- 15 of 38 remote or remote-optional seats limit your state, your distance from an office or your time zone
- 3 days a week is the most common office requirement: 24 of the 40 hybrid postings that name a number
- $83,510 is the BLS median for credit analysts (May 2025); securities and investment firms pay a median of $135,390
How We Collected This Data
Start with what we couldn't see. Indeed, Glassdoor and ZipRecruiter block automated reads, and Reddit is closed entirely, so there are no forum quotes here. LinkedIn's public job pages carry no structured remote flag, and 549 of the 800 postings never mention a work model in their text. Silent doesn't mean remote. It means the posting didn't say, so every remote share below is given two ways: of all postings, and of the postings that state a model.
On October 22, 2026, we pulled credit analyst postings from four places. LinkedIn's public job search gave us 812 result pages across 52 keyword searches, 2,543 listing cards and 702 full job pages. SimplyHired, which carries Indeed's listings, gave us 56 searches, 3,875 cards and 450 job pages. We also searched 462 employer career sites on Workday and 111 live Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and SmartRecruiters boards.
We kept titles that pair "credit" with "analyst," plus loan review, credit administration and commercial lending analyst titles, and read each posting's text. We set aside 179 non-US postings, 24 campus development-program postings (62 copies), 30 first listed before 2026, AI-trainer gigs, offshore desks serving Australian brokers, aggregator reposts, and title traps. "Credit balance analyst" is a hospital billing refund job. "Tax credit analyst" is a different field. The same employer and title posted in several cities or sites counts once, which collapsed 349 copies.
We read every one of the 38 remote and remote-optional postings by hand. Boilerplate like "remote or hybrid flexibility for active-duty military spouses" or "telecommuting" in a benefits list doesn't count. The remote share of postings that state a model lands between 8% and 14% in every source: 12 of 153 on LinkedIn, 8 of 56 on SimplyHired, 5 of 39 on employer Workday sites. Pay uses posted ranges only (362 of 800) at the midpoint, with hourly rates annualized at 2,080 hours. 637 of the 800 were first listed in September or October, and we update this analysis quarterly.
The Credit Desk Map: Who Reads Your Work Decides Where You Sit
The Credit Desk Map sorts a credit analyst job by who receives the analyst's work. On the Lender desk, it's a relationship manager and a loan committee. On the Ledger desk, it's a customer account and the sales team waiting for an order release. On the Model desk, it's a decision engine or a loss forecast. On the Market desk, it's a portfolio manager, a rating committee or an investment committee. Each desk has its own remote odds, pay band and posting tells.
Why the hand-off matters: the analysis itself travels fine. A spread is a spreadsheet, and a memo is a document. But a bank credit analyst is half of a pair. 269 of 449 Lender-desk postings mention a relationship manager, lender, loan officer or banker, and 44 name site visits or customer meetings. Banks also use the seat as their training bench for future lenders and credit officers. Where the posting spells out that pairing, remote odds drop by half: 5 of 66 postings that state a model are fully remote, against 10 of 59 that don't mention the lender. Market-desk analysts present to rating and investment committees (59 of 158 postings name one), 70 of the 158 postings are in New York, and the hybrid ones that name office days mostly ask for three (14 postings) or four (7). The Ledger and Model desks hand their work to a system: a credit limit in SAP, a cutoff in a strategy engine. That's where the work can leave the building.
Here's the scoring for each desk, from the postings:
- Lender desk (15 of 125 stating postings fully remote, 12.0%, plus 6 remote-optional; median midpoint $83K, middle half $70K to $104K, n=195): spreads business and personal financials, builds global cash flow, writes credit approval packages for loan officers and committee, runs annual reviews and covenant checks. Employers are banks (333 of 449), credit unions, Farm Credit lenders, SBA and equipment lenders, finance companies and loan review groups. Tells: nCino (25 postings), Sageworks or Abrigo (20), Baker Hill, "relationship manager," "loan committee," "site visits," and hourly ranges. Senior analysts post a $105K median (n=63); mid-level analysts post $75.5K (n=116), and 36 of those 116 ranges are hourly.
- Ledger desk (6 of 40, 15.0%, plus 2 remote-optional; median $73K, middle half $64K to $87K, n=42): sets customer credit limits, reviews credit applications and business credit reports, releases orders on hold, works receivables and deductions with sales. Employers are manufacturers, distributors, retail pro desks, software companies and trade-credit insurers. Tells: SAP (27), Dun & Bradstreet (16), Oracle (12), NACM (12), "credit limits," "orders on hold." Senior seats post a $96K median (n=14).
- Model desk (2 of 22 fully remote, 5 of 22 including remote-optional; median $126K, middle half $108K to $155K, n=27): writes and tests credit strategy, policy cutoffs, line management, loss forecasts and risk-rating models for card, consumer and small-business portfolios. Employers are banks (22 of 59), fintechs (19) and corporate lenders. Tells: SQL (48 of 59), Python (43), SAS (25), "strategy," "A/B tests," "loss forecasting."
- Market desk (2 of 58, 3.4%, plus 2 remote-optional; median $122.5K, middle half $102.5K to $160K, n=95): rates issuers, underwrites private loans and structured deals, writes research for portfolio managers, sets counterparty limits. Employers are rating agencies (Fitch alone posted 31 distinct roles), private credit funds, asset managers, insurers' investment teams and trading firms. Tells: CFA (82 of 158), "rating committee" or "investment committee," Capital IQ, Bloomberg or PitchBook (29), and named office days. Director and VP titles post a $160K median (n=22).
How to use it: Before you read the title, find the noun your work goes to in the duties section.
- A relationship manager, lender or loan committee: Lender desk. Expect hybrid unless the posting says remote, and look for a state list if it does.
- Customers, sales or orders: Ledger desk. Remote shows up at large corporates and trade-credit insurers, and pay tops out lower unless the seat is senior.
- A model, strategy or policy: Model desk. It has the highest median of the four desks, and SQL is the entry ticket.
- A rating committee, investment committee or portfolio manager: Market desk. Plan on three to four office days, and price the commute into the offer.
KeyBank's "Senior Risk Analyst - Credit Risk Review" sends its work to review teams and risk partners, not to lenders. It's listed "Remote, United States" at $116,000 to $216,000. Banner Bank's "Senior Credit Analyst (Remote - WA, OR & ID)" prepares "credit approval packages, credit proposals, financial summaries, and written opinions for loan decision makers." That's a Lender-desk seat, remote, but only inside three states, at $88,657 to $104,303.
The four desks side by side:
| Desk | Postings (employers) | Fully remote | Remote of postings that state a model | Silent | Median posted midpoint (n) | Hourly ranges | Strongest tell |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lender | 449 (334) | 15 | 15 of 125 (12.0%) | 324 | $82,950 (195) | 49 of 195 | "relationship manager," nCino |
| Ledger | 121 (114) | 6 | 6 of 40 (15.0%) | 81 | $73,175 (42) | 12 of 42 | SAP, "credit limits" |
| Model | 59 (52) | 2 | 2 of 22 (9.1%); 5 of 22 with remote-optional | 37 | $125,904 (27) | 0 of 27 | SQL, "strategy" |
| Market | 158 (101) | 2 | 2 of 58 (3.4%) | 100 | $122,500 (95) | 0 of 95 | CFA, "rating committee" |
Thirteen more postings didn't fit a desk cleanly; none of them is remote.
Credit analysis is portable. The people who read it aren't.
If the desk you want hires in only a few states, the hard part is seeing every opening in those states the week it posts, not writing a better cover letter.

Where the 25 Remote Credit Analyst Jobs Are
By desk, the fully remote postings split 15 Lender, 6 Ledger, 2 Model and 2 Market. Another 13 are remote-optional: remote for some candidates, or remote unless you live near an office.
Most of the remote Lender seats belong to banks and credit unions that hire across their own footprint. Banner Bank posted a "Credit Analyst (remote WA)" at $30.34 to $39.98 an hour and a "Senior Credit Analyst (Remote - WA, OR & ID)." Bank of North Dakota "may work remote provided the candidate is a ND resident and resides within the state of North Dakota," at $70,532 to $125,553. Superior Choice Credit Union calls its commercial credit analyst seat "fully remote" and then requires candidates to "reside in the Twin Cities, Twin Ports, or surrounding areas." U.S. Bank's Agricultural Credit Analyst lists Minneapolis or remote at $81,900 to $109,200. Member Business Financial Services, which underwrites business loans for credit unions, posted a "Commercial Credit Analyst (Full Time Remote)." Credit unions overall are not a remote shortcut, though: 1 of the 8 credit union postings that state a model is remote.
Loan review is the other remote door on the Lender desk, and federal guidance explains why. The Interagency Guidance on Credit Risk Review Systems (May 2020) expects risk ratings to be checked by people independent of the lending function. Those can include "external credit review consultants," and a bank's board "may outsource the credit risk review function to an independent third party." A review analyst is supposed to sit apart from the lender, so the job was never built around the lender's office. KeyBank's Credit Risk Review seat above is the clearest example in our data. It's a reporting and analytics role that supports the group's "independent review and challenge responsibilities."
On the Ledger desk, Home Depot listed two trade-credit seats as "GEORGIA - VIRTUAL," covering order-to-cash work for its Pro Trade Credit business. Wilbur-Ellis posted a remote Credit Analyst II at $61,100 to $81,510 to "analyze large agricultural accounts for creditworthiness, typically with credit limits exceeding $500,000." Allianz Trade, a trade-credit insurer, posted a remote Senior Credit Analyst at $90,000 to $115,000 to "assign a company credit rating" across middle-market and large corporate obligors.
The Model and Market desks contribute few seats, but they're high-value ones. Flagstar's Credit Risk Quantitative Model Analyst Sr is listed "Work From Home United States" at $91,069 to $160,740. Earnin's Staff Credit Risk Analyst ($173,928 to $245,773) is "a remote role in the US, however those local to Mountain View (headquarters) will require in-office work 2 days a week." Coinbase's Credit Risk Analyst ($95,030 to $111,800) comes with the line "Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company," plus quarterly in-person "surges."
Silence is the most common answer. 549 of 800 postings never state a work model, and when one does, it's hybrid six times as often as remote (153 to 25). For what's open this week, current remote finance openings are filtered by role, and our remote banking jobs guide covers the bank roles around the credit seat.
Remote Small Print in Credit Analyst Postings
A remote label on a credit analyst posting usually comes with conditions. 15 of the 38 remote and remote-optional seats limit where you live, how close you are to an office, or which hours you keep. These are the conditions, in the employers' own words:
- State lists. Altra Federal Credit Union considers remote work only "for those candidates who live within Altra's approved remote states: CO, FL, GA, IA, MI." KMA lists "Rocky Hill, CT or Remote (CO, KS, MA, VT, PA, WA, RI)." Foundation Finance requires remote employees to live in one of 29 named states.
- Radius rules. USAA's credit risk strategy seats are "remote eligible in the continental U.S.," but people living within 60 miles of a USAA office "will be expected to work on-site four days per week."
- Remote in name only. Northwest Bank's C&I credit analyst posting says "Fridays are an optional work from home day." Cornerstone Bank offers a "monthly telecommute day after initial training period." Capital Credit Union's seat has "the potential to work from home, contingent upon supervisor approval."
- Preferred, not required. Habitat for Humanity's Credit and Portfolio Analyst ($73,500 to $109,350) is "strongly preferred to be based at our headquarters office in downtown Atlanta (Remote considered)" with up to 10% travel.
- Plain no. Independence Bank: "Position is not eligible for remote work." First Federal Bank of Louisiana: "The position is not a remote position."
- Office days. Of the 40 hybrid postings that name a number, 24 ask for 3 days a week in the office, 11 ask for 4 and 5 ask for 2. Morningstar's ratings team says it plainly: "our hybrid work model is four days in-office each week."
If the posting says remote and your state isn't on it: ask for the state list before the first interview. Banks with footprint rules rarely bend them, because payroll registration, licensing and exam access are set up state by state.
If it says hybrid and names no days: ask the number on the recruiter call. Three days is the norm in these postings, and four is common at rating agencies.
If the duties name a relationship manager and the posting says nothing about location: assume hybrid. 5 of 66 postings with that pairing were remote when they stated a model.
If it says "remote-first" or "remote eligible": ask what happens if you live near an office. USAA's 60-mile rule and Earnin's two days for Mountain View locals are both printed in the posting.
A remote bank credit analyst job is usually a remote job inside one state.
What Remote Credit Analysts Earn
Pay figures below use the 362 postings that publish a range (of 800), taken at the range midpoint, with hourly rates annualized at 2,080 hours and rounded in the prose. We cross-checked them against BLS occupational wage data for credit analysts, which O*NET OnLine republishes for SOC 13-2041: a May 2025 median of $83,510, with the middle half between $65,210 and $122,460. Ranges move with the market, so treat these as October 2026 figures.
| Desk and level | Median posted midpoint | Postings with a range | Hourly ranges |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lender, junior | $56,210 | 10 | 6 |
| Lender, mid-level | $75,504 | 116 | 36 |
| Lender, senior | $105,000 | 63 | 7 |
| Ledger, mid-level | $65,005 | 26 | 9 |
| Ledger, senior | $96,250 | 14 | 1 |
| Model, senior | $127,700 | 21 | 0 |
| Market, analyst titles | $115,000 | 45 | 0 |
| Market, director and VP titles | $160,000 | 22 | 0 |
Two things stand out. First, remote costs little; on site is where the discount is. Fully remote postings have a median midpoint of $96K (n=14) and hybrid postings $102.5K (n=95). On-site postings sit at $63K (n=31), mostly community banks and credit unions. Second, the BLS industry split matches the desk split. Credit analysts at securities and investment firms earn a median of $135,390, against $82,240 in banks and other credit intermediation and $75,280 at durable-goods wholesalers, where trade credit lives.
The hourly line is the one experienced analysts miss. 62 of the 362 posted ranges are hourly, 49 of them on the Lender desk, with a median midpoint of $32 an hour. Banks treat the analyst seat as a non-exempt training step on the way to lender or credit officer, and the pay is built that way. We set aside 24 campus development-program postings, 20 of them for Western Alliance's 2027 Commercial Banking Development Program, where credit analyst cohort seats posted $29.04 to $36.30 an hour depending on the city. 23 of the 24 state no work model. If you're past the training bench, filter for senior titles: 267 of the 362 posted midpoints clear $75K, and 17 of the 22 remote or remote-optional ranges do. Our $75K+ remote job listings and $100K+ listings filter on posted pay.
In credit, pay follows the committee room and remote follows the system.

Credentials and AI: What the Postings Actually Ask For
Credentials sort by desk, and the one most credit-training ads push barely shows up in hiring. CFA is named in 82 of 158 Market-desk postings, against 11 of 449 Lender-desk postings. ProSight's Credit Risk Certification (the former RMA CRC; RMA and BAI merged into ProSight in 2024) is named in 4 of 800. It wants at least three years of credit risk experience (five recommended), a $550 exam fee, a testing-center sitting, and 45 continuing-education credits every three years. NACM's credit designations show up in 12 postings, all on the Ledger desk. The entry-level Credit Business Associate has no work-experience minimum, while the Certified Credit Executive takes the CBA and CBF, or 10 years of experience plus 125 career points.
The decision rule: if you're aiming at the Market desk, the CFA is the credential that moves postings. If you're aiming at the Model desk, SQL does more than any credential. It's in 48 of 59 Model postings, and Python is in 43. On the Lender desk, the software line on your resume (nCino, Abrigo, Moody's CreditLens) shows up more often than any certification. Use the CRC as a raise or promotion lever at your current bank, not as a door opener.
On AI, the postings are calmer than the headlines. 95 of 800 name AI or automation in a duty or skill line, and it's spread across every desk. KeyBank's review seat is about "automation, and process improvement initiatives" inside credit review. Allianz Trade asks for "familiarity with Generative AI tools for research." O*NET's projection for SOC 13-2041 is a decline of 1% or more from 2025 to 2035, with about 3,100 openings a year, mostly to replace analysts who leave or retire. Spreading software already does the data entry. The credit call, and the person who defends it in committee, is still a hire.
For the Market desk, the ceiling on headcount is public. The SEC's NRSRO statistics count 5,779 credit analysts, supervisors included, employed by all SEC-registered rating agencies at the end of 2025. BLS counts 64,390 credit analysts in the US.
How to Get Hired Into a Remote Credit Analyst Seat
Start from the desk you're on, then pick the closest remote door:
- Bank commercial, CRE, SBA or ag analyst. Search banks and credit unions headquartered in your state, because footprint remote is the main remote model on the Lender desk. Add loan review and credit administration titles to your searches. If you have SQL, apply to the Model desk at the same banks, where portfolio and strategy seats post a $126K median.
- Corporate trade-credit analyst. Target large corporates with virtual or multi-state credit teams, and lead with the system you run (SAP credit management, Oracle receivables, HighRadius) and the size of the limits you set. Wilbur-Ellis's posting names limits "exceeding $500,000." Put your biggest limit on your resume as a number.
- Consumer or fintech risk analyst. You're already on the Model desk. Remote seats exist (Flagstar, Earnin, BHG), but most bank strategy teams are hybrid, so ask about the radius rule early.
- Rating-agency or private-credit analyst. Accept that the desk is an office desk (2 of 58 remote), or move toward insurer and bank investment teams and trading firms, where a few seats are remote-optional.
Match each desk's tells in one line. Lender: "Spread and underwrote 40+ C&I and CRE relationships a year in nCino, $1MM-$15MM exposures, presented to loan committee." Ledger: "Set and monitored credit limits for 600 accounts in SAP, released held orders same day, cut DSO by six days." Swap in your own numbers; recruiters search for the tool and the size.
Those are templates, not quotes, and the numbers are placeholders for yours. The tool names are the part that matches what postings ask for.
The work-model question belongs on the first recruiter call, not the offer call. Ask three things: the state list, the office days, and whether the seat reports to a relationship manager or to credit administration. The last answer tells you more about the next two years than the title does.
The bank credit analyst seat is a training bench, and training benches sit near the coach. 269 of 449 Lender-desk postings describe the analyst working with a relationship manager or lender, and that pairing halves the remote odds. If remote matters more to you than the lender track, move toward review, administration or the Model desk early, before the bench is your whole résumé.
If you've been sending applications to the wrong desk, our guide on why you're not getting interviews covers the screening side.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a credit analyst work from home full time?
Yes, but it's uncommon. In our read of 800 US credit analyst postings from January to October 2026, 25 were fully remote, which is 25 of the 251 that state a work model (10.0%). Another 13 were remote-optional, and most remote seats limit your state or your distance from an office.
I'm a commercial credit analyst at a bank. What's my best shot at a fully remote role?
Search banks and credit unions in your own state first. Footprint hiring is how most remote Lender-desk seats work, like Banner Bank's "Remote - WA, OR & ID" seat or Bank of North Dakota's ND-resident rule. Then add loan review titles, which federal guidance lets banks staff independently of the lending floor, and Model-desk strategy seats if you have SQL.
Which desk on the Credit Desk Map pays the most, and is it ever remote?
The Market desk (rating agencies, private credit, asset managers) posts a $122,500 median, and director and VP titles post $160,000. It's the least remote desk: 2 of the 58 postings that state a work model are fully remote, and four in-office days are common. The Model desk pays a similar $125,904 median with better remote odds.
Do I need a CFA or ProSight's CRC to land a remote credit analyst job?
Only on the Market desk, where 82 of 158 postings name the CFA. ProSight's Credit Risk Certification appears in 4 of 800 postings and requires three years of credit risk experience and a $550 exam. For remote Model-desk seats, SQL (48 of 59 postings) matters more than either.
How much do remote credit analysts make compared with hybrid ones?
About the same. Fully remote postings show a $96,015 median midpoint (n=14) and hybrid postings $102,500 (n=95). On-site postings are the outlier at $63,000 (n=31), because they're mostly community banks and credit unions. The BLS median for all US credit analysts is $83,510 (May 2025).
Will AI replace credit analysts?
Not in these postings. 95 of 800 name AI or automation in a duty or skill line, usually as a tool the analyst uses. O*NET projects a decline of 1% or more for credit analysts from 2025 to 2035, but still about 3,100 openings a year. Spreading and data entry are being automated; the credit recommendation isn't.
Is trade credit or bank credit easier to do remotely?
Trade credit, slightly: 6 of 40 corporate trade-credit postings that state a work model are fully remote, against 15 of 125 on the bank lending side. The trade-off is pay. Trade-credit postings carry a $73,175 median versus $82,950, so the remote trade seats worth taking are senior ones, which post a $96,250 median.
Find Remote Credit Analyst Jobs
Pick your desk before you pick a posting. The Lender desk has the most seats but mostly asks for office days. The Ledger desk has remote seats at lower pay. The Model desk pays at the top and rewards SQL. The Market desk pays well and keeps you in the building.
For the roles around this one, our remote risk management jobs guide breaks down credit, model and operational risk, the remote financial analyst guide covers FP&A and adjacent tracks, and the remote underwriting guide covers the loan and insurance underwriter seats that share the credit skill set. If the Model desk is your target, remote data analyst roles and our remote data analyst guide show what the SQL side of the market pays. Finance and accounting openings update daily, and Auto-Apply keeps you in front of the footprint banks and corporate credit teams the week they post.
The memo can be written anywhere. Where it gets read is the job.
