Manager I, Engineering - Design Ops, Front End

We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead our Design Systems team. You’ll maintain, grow and scale our

best-in-class design system

to ensure efficiency and accessibility across our product ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, and product managers, to deliver solutions that delight our users.

What You’ll Do

Manage a diverse group of 5-6 Engineers, leveraging influence and humility to grow individuals and elevate the team’s quality of work.

Provide thoughtful technical feedback to develop the team’s skills and ensure alignment with Datadog's engineering standards and best practices

Partner with our Design counterpart team, Product, and Engineering teams to understand needs, implement design components, and evangelise the value of design systems.

Define a technical roadmap that aligns product goals with our team’s mission, re-enforcing a culture where every design decision centers on user needs.

Lead the scaling and maintenance of a large, multi-product design system, and advocate for the team as trusted partners for usability best practices.

Participate in hands-on work: code reviews, design reviews and some coding.

Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance the design system and related processes.

Who You Are

Experience

: You have experience in people management of Front End-focused engineering teams. Bonus: you have experience in developing and scaling design systems, and/or with a deep understanding of component-based design patterns.

Leadership

: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, whilst delivering high-quality software products.

Collaboration

: Experience working in cross-functional teams, with a track record of building effective partnerships with engineers, product designers and product managers.

Technical Proficiency

: Strong technician, particularly with Typescript, React and CSS, who is interested in remaining a hands-on leader
