The Reliability Engineering team at Robinhood is focused on ensuring the scalability, performance, and resilience of the systems powering our millions of users. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll be part of the founding team shaping our reliability practices from the ground up. Our mission is to build a culture and foundation of reliability into all areas of the stack—from brokerage and crypto to backend infrastructure and tooling. The team is also going to be building with other teams, specifically building out the pre-production/staging environments, working with observability, and internal developer tooling groups as well!
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead major technical initiatives and influence reliability engineering strategy across the company. You’ll build and scale critical systems, work closely with partners across product and infrastructure teams, and be a core contributor to establishing standards and best practices for observability, testing, and system readiness. You’ll operate with significant autonomy while mentoring others and setting a high bar for engineering excellence!
This Role Is Based In Our Menlo Park, Ca Office, With In-person Attendance Expected At Least 3 Days Per Week.

What you’ll do
Develop and build software, infrastructure and tools that improve observability, alerting, incident response, and system readiness
Serve as a technical leader and reliability domain expert across multiple teams, driving architectural decisions and cross-functional initiatives
Design and lead large-scale reliability efforts that impact Robinhood’s most critical systems and services
Lead Production Readiness Reviews, championing best practices in pre-production testing, SLO development, and incident response metrics
Mentor engineers, foster a reliability-first culture, and drive long-term improvements that reduce operational overhead and improve system health
What You Bring
8+ years of experience designing and scaling distributed systems in production environments
Deep technical expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, C++) and strong systems engineering fundamentals
Experience Leading Major Infrastructure Or Reliability Initiatives Across Multiple Teams Or Domains
Track record of improving reliability metrics such as SLO adherence, MTTD/MTTR, or cost efficiency at scale
Strong mentorship and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration, clarity, and impact

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.
