Why Do We Need You?

We are looking for a Staff FinOps Engineer who brings deep technical expertise, strong ownership, and a passion for driving impact at scale. This role serves as a critical bridge between Finance, Engineering, and Operations, ensuring sustainable cloud and SaaS usage while enabling rapid innovation. You will report to the Director of Infrastructure and will be responsible for owning FinOps strategy and execution across Calendly’s cloud and SaaS infrastructure, partnering closely with Infrastructure, Data, Product, and Finance teams.

A day in the life of a Staff Cloud FinOps Engineer at Calendly

On a typical day,

Will

Build foundational FinOps capabilities, including cost visibility, forecasting, dashboards, and actionable reporting

Establish and lead Calendly’s FinOps practice by driving cloud and SaaS cost optimization across compute, storage, databases, observability, and search platforms

Analyze infrastructure usage and cost drivers to design and implement durable, high-impact technical optimizations

Partner with Infrastructure and Data teams to influence architecture, tooling, and operational decisions with cost efficiency in mind

Collaborate with Finance and Procurement to support budgeting, forecasting, and vendor cost optimization efforts

Translate complex cost and usage data into clear recommendations for engineering leaders and executives

What do we need from you?

8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, FinOps, or a related technical role, with demonstrated impact beyond a single team or system

Deep hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms and SaaS providers (e.g., GCP or AWS; Datadog, Elastic, managed databases), including cost and usage optimization at scale

Proven ability to define and drive cost optimization initiatives from problem identification through technical execution and measurable outcomes

Experience operating effectively in high-ambiguity environments, setting direction where no established FinOps practice exists

Strong analytical skills with a track record of turning complex billing and usage data into strategic, durable engineering solutions

Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to shape decisions with senior engineering leaders and business partners without formal authority

Availability for participation in an on-call rotation, ensuring timely and effective responses to critical production issues outside of regular working hours.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience Building Or Scaling A Finops Practice As An Early Or First Hire

Track record of driving company-wide or multi-team infrastructure cost initiatives with sustained impact

FinOps Foundation certification or equivalent depth of applied experience

Background in Infrastructure, SRE, or Data platform teams supporting large-scale, cloud-native systems

Experience Designing Or Implementing Cost-aware Platforms, Guardrails, Or Self-service Tooling For Engineering Teams

Strong understanding of cloud vendor pricing models, discount programs, and long-term cost strategy tradeoffs

Experience Presenting Cost, Roi, And Optimization Strategies To Executive Or Vp-level Stakeholders

Experience Supporting High-growth Saas Products With Usage-based Or Variable Cost Models

The ranges listed above are the expected annual base salary for this role, subject to change.

Calendly takes a number of factors into consideration when determining an employee’s starting salary, including relevant experience, relevant skills sets, interview performance, location/metropolitan area, and internal pay equity.

Base salary is just one component of Calendly’s total rewards package. All full-time (30 hours/week) employees are also eligible for our Top Performer Bonus program (or Sales incentive), equity awards, and competitive benefits.

Calendly uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location, or the onsite building location if hybrid, to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current geographic zones are as follows:

Tier 1: San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, New York City, NY

Tier 2: Chicago, IL, Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Boston, MA, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Miami, FL, and all other cities in CA.

Tier 3: All other locations not in Tier 1 or Tier 2
