About The Internship

We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our growing team in Technology, Data, and Intelligence (TDI) and to help scale our business solutions while providing an extra focus on security, enabling Okta to be the most efficient, scalable, and reliable company. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing customizations, extensions, configurations, and integrations required to meet the company’s strategic business objectives. Candidates will work collaboratively with business stakeholders, business analysts, and engineers on different infrastructure layers, from proposal development to deployment and support. Therefore, a commitment to collaborative problem-solving and delivering high-quality solutions is essential. In addition, your product owner will look to you to provide all technical services—design, config, software development, and testing.

What You’ll Get To Do

Work with engineering management and an assigned mentor to scope and plan engineering efforts

Design and implement core, high-performance, scalable software components

Implement clean, maintainable, and efficient code, adhering to best practices and coding standards

Utilize test-driven development practices and participate in design and code reviews to ensure the reliability and maintainability of code

Partner with QA, Product Management, Technical Support, Engineering peers, Documentation, and UX teams to ensure seamless integration and product delivery

Ability to prepare and deliver clear, concise, and impactful presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences

Who We Are Looking For

B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field and graduating December 2026 or Spring 2027

Strong passion for software development, testing, and solving complex problems

Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Go, Node.js, C++, Python)

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment

Basic understanding of JavaScript and its role in modern application development

Knowledge of web application frameworks, RDBMS & Application Servers (experience in one or more preferred)

Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical ideas clearly

Prior internship or project experience in software development is a plus

Nice To Have

Experience building solutions using Salesforce, AWS services such as Lambda, EC2, Fargate, CloudWatch, SQS, SNS, and SES a strong plus

Knowledge of RESTful APIs and API design principles

Additional Requirements

This position requires the ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data.  As a condition of employment for this position, the successful candidate must be able to submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status (e.g. a U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee. 22 CFR 120.15) upon hire.

Okta’s Intern Program

As an intern, you’ll do real work that matters. While you’re on board, you’ll work on meaningful projects and have an opportunity to see what working at Okta is all about. You’ll also have the assistance of your mentor and manager to help you develop new skills.

We want you to grow professionally and you’ll do that through participating in events like our Executive Speaker Series and Brown Bags. And of course, we want you to have fun too.

We offer 12-week summer internships in the U.S. with two available start dates. You may choose from the following options: May 26 – August 14 or June 15 – September 4.

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in San Francisco Bay Area. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies.
