As the Senior Director, Procurement, you'll help shape how GitLab builds and scales procurement in a fast-growing, all-remote company. In this role, you'll create and manage a procurement strategy that supports company goals while improving operational efficiency, managing risk, and building clear, practical processes that work across teams. You'll guide policies, systems, and purchase controls that support responsible growth, and you'll partner closely with stakeholders across the business to make procurement a trusted, effective function. This role is a strong fit for someone who can balance strategy and execution, strengthen team performance, and build a procurement organization that delivers consistency, speed, and sound judgment.

What you’ll do

Lead hyperscaler and strategic vendor relationships with a 360-degree view across commercial terms, GTM incentives, product co-development opportunities, and partner program value

Have an ownership mindset - drive the function forward with speed whilst not sacrificing quality to deliver impact for internal stakeholders.

Create, communicate, and execute a procurement strategy that supports GitLab's business objectives and improves operational efficiency, risk management, and scalable decision-making.

Own procurement policies, practices, and systems that help the business scale while managing risk and improving efficiency. Challenge the status quo and be a change agent.

Develop procurement processes, systems, and purchase controls to support compliance, increase policy adoption, and improve operational efficiency across teams.

Partner with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and advisors to improve procurement, negotiation, audit, and accounting processes.

Build strong cross-functional relationships to understand business needs, improve the team member experience, and ensure procurement programs deliver value.

Lead vendor negotiation strategy and support negotiations to achieve stronger pricing, favorable terms, and measurable business value.

Build an AI-first procurement function — actively identifying where automation, AI tooling, and modern workflows can replace manual work, reduce cycle times, and free the team to focus on higher-value decisions.

Define team KPIs, identify root causes behind performance gaps, and lead improvement plans that increase procurement efficiency and team performance.

Lead and develop the procurement team to improve accountability, strengthen performance, and support professional growth in alignment with GitLab's values.

What you’ll bring

Significant experience in procurement within a technology company, including experience leading procurement teams.

A strong track record of building procurement strategies, operating models, and controls that support growth and consistency.

Good judgment grounded in industry knowledge, practical experience, and an awareness of business tradeoffs.

The ability to assess broad stakeholder needs and adapt to current and emerging policies, practices, trends, and business requirements.

Strong operational skills with experience improving procure-to-pay processes for speed, consistency, and quality.

Experience Developing Vendor Negotiation Strategies And Managing Supplier Relationships With A Focus On Business Value.

An outcomes-focused leadership style with experience setting goals, improving team performance, and helping others grow.

The ability to create solutions that meet current business needs while building a foundation for future scale in an asynchronous, cross-functional environment.

We work across functions to improve how we buy, manage suppliers, and apply controls that reduce risk while keeping the business moving. The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of the United States only. This range is intended to reflect the role's base salary rate in locations throughout the US. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, alignment with market data, and geographic location. The base salary range does not include any bonuses, equity, or benefits.
