Engineering Lead - AI Platform

This is a unique opportunity to navigate the worlds of engineering and product, taking on the challenge of building and guiding the evolution of the foundational platform that powers all of Neon's AI-driven solutions.The AI Platform is the cornerstone of our strategy to deliver on Neon's core mission: paving a path to a better financial future for Brazilians. It comprises the tools, best practices, and infrastructure that enable our teams to build, deploy, and operate impactful AI applications for our customers. This role can be structured as either a hands-on Staff Engineer or a management position, depending on the candidate's profile and expertise.

What You'll Do (responsibilities)

Lead End-to-End Execution: Drive initiatives from ideation and technical discovery through to final delivery. As the lead engineer, you will be hands-on: writing code, leading and participating in design reviews, shipping to production, responding to incidents, and unblocking teammates.Define Product Strategy & Vision: Act as the de-facto Product Manager for the AI Platform. You will be responsible for converting ambiguity into clarity, defining the product direction, making critical investment and prioritization decisions, and communicating the roadmap to stakeholders across the company.Architect & Build: Design and implement robust, scalable technical solutions. You will translate business needs into technical specifications, making key decisions on architecture, performance, and cost-efficiency, taking into consideration broader team and company objectives.Drive Adoption & Impact: Ultimately, you are responsible for the success of the platform. You will monitor results and impact metrics, including adoption, usage, performance, and value generated, and iterate quickly on solutions to ensure the platform effectively resolves customer pain points and delivers business impact.

What We're Looking For (qualifications)

Applied AI Experience: Direct, hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating products or platforms powered by modern AI infrastructure (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, et al).Strong Technical Foundation: Proven expertise in software engineering, with hands-on experience implementing scalable, AI-driven solutions in cloud environments (preferably AWS & K8s).Product Leadership Experience: Track record of driving product decisions, with a proven ability to manage a roadmap, conduct discovery, and prioritize effectively.Evaluation Expertise: Experience designing and/or running application-level evaluations and integrating them with A/B testing and model evaluation frameworks.Familiarity with AI Tooling: Experience with open-source AI toolkits and frameworks (e.g., LangFuse, LiteLLM, Agno, etc.).Business Acumen: A strong ability to connect technical rationale with business objectives, translating technology into tangible impact.Adaptability: Comfortable navigating collaborative environments of high ambiguity, with a genuine interest in applied AI and willingness to engage in continuous learning.

Bonus Points For

A clear perspective on how to best integrate AI into the software development lifecycle, including concepts like context management and spec-driven development.Experience with multi-agent architectures in production environments.Background in fintech, high-scale digital products, or technological modernization contexts.Deep experience with technologies we rely on at Neon: AWS, Github, and SQL.
