About The Job

We're looking for a strategic, curious, and collaborative Director, R&D Finance. In this role, you'll serve as the finance partner for our Channel and Engagement Experiences Product teams, driving product investment prioritization and R&D portfolio optimization, while also supporting specific projects for the VP of R&D Finance.

You'll help drive financial rigor, unlock growth opportunities, and ensure we're investing resources where they matter most. This role will lead forecasting, financial modeling, and decision support - helping leaders on the R&D team understand return on investment across our product portfolio and make data-driven investment decisions.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

Establish the standard

for ROI analysis across R&D; lead business case development for new product launches and feature investments to help prioritize the R&D roadmap based on financial returns and strategic value.

Translate

long-term product strategy into a sustainable, repeatable financial framework that underpins our Long-Range Planning (LRP) scenarios.

Partner closely with R&D leadership

to assess product performance and evaluate roadmap investments over both short- and long-term horizons.

Provide strategic financial insights

to guide investment decisions and drive optimal resource allocation across the product portfolio.

Collaborate cross-functionally

to identify growth levers, optimize margin drivers, and improve structural cost efficiencies.

Oversee the development

of flexible financial models to support ad-hoc analysis, scenario planning, and potential M&A opportunities.

Synthesize and communicate

complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for executive stakeholders and cross-functional business partners.

Lead, mentor, and develop

a high-performing team of 3 to 4 financial analysts supporting our Engagement and Channel products.

12+ years of FP&A experience in progressive financial roles

Strong financial modeling skills, with experience completing product forecasts (revenue & COGS), pricing impacts, and knowledge of common tech industry metrics

Experience Evaluating Product Business Cases, Including Customer Adoption Trends, Unit Economics, And Pricing Impacts

Excellent business acumen and ability to influence stakeholders with data-driven insights

Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and can effectively problem-solve across multiple teams

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working with Senior Leadership (VP+)

Proficiency in financial planning tools (Anaplan) and comfort working with large datasets

Desired

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related field, or equivalent experience

Familiarity with API/platform monetization models and usage-based revenue structures

Location

This Role Will Be Remote,

but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.

Travel

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

Compensation

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Washington State. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.

The Estimated Pay Ranges For This Role Are As Follows

Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $171,200.00-$213,900.00.

Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $181,200.00-$226,500.00.

Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $201,280.00-$251,600.00.

This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
