About The Internship

The Data Platform Shared Services Engineering team builds and operates the foundational data infrastructure and tooling used across Okta. This includes data ingestion frameworks, computer platforms, orchestration systems, data lakes, and developer-facing abstractions that enable analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence at scale.

Reporting to an Engineering Manager, this internship provides hands-on experience designing, building, and improving core data platform components in a fast-paced, Agile environment. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and gain exposure to real-world, production-grade data infrastructure.

What You'll Get To Do

Assist in building and improving core data platform services such as ingestion frameworks, orchestration workflows, and data processing pipelines.

Help develop and maintain scalable, reliable, and observable data infrastructure on cloud platforms.

Contribute to data platform tooling that improves developer productivity, reliability, and data quality.

Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.

Collaborate with data engineers and platform teams to understand platform requirements.

Participate in the development of AI-driven features and data processing tasks to enhance the Data Platform.

Experiment with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI to automate data management and insights.

Who We Are Looking For

Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical degree and graduating in December 2026 or Spring 2027.

Strong programming fundamentals in at least one language such as Python or Java.

Experience With Infrastructure As Code (e.g., Terraform).

Familiarity with SQL and basic data system concepts.

Exposure to cloud platforms through coursework or projects.

A strong interest in AI/ML technologies and their application in data engineering.

Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn.

Nice To Have

Past summer internship experience.

Experience Building Solutions Using Aws Services Such As Lambda, Ec2, Fargate, Or Cloudwatch.

Additional Requirements

This position requires the ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data.  As a condition of employment for this position, the successful candidate must be able to submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status (e.g. a U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee. 22 CFR 120.15) upon hire.

We offer 12-week summer internships in the U.S. with two available start dates: May 26 – August 14 or June 15 – September 4.

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in San Francisco Bay Area. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies.
